One of the interesting parts of the AlpacaFiesta was tours of the local processing factories.

A special sorting and processing area was set up for the vicuna fleece. We were told that the processed fleece was worth $500 an ounce.

The main square in Arequipa which is an industrial city with a population of 620,000. Arequipa was built by the Spanish on a high desert area (elevation of 7,700 feet).

We were given a tour of Arequipa by a young woman we met in the main square.
