The train from the Sacred Valley took us to
Aguas Calientes at the base of the mountain below Machu Picchu. |
Construction was booming in
Aguas Calientes. The tools used were almost only hand powered tools.
It is a long hike up from the bottom of the valley to Machu
Picchu.
The hike looked a little hard
so we took the shuttle bus that wound up the road that you can see in the upper
left corner of this photo.
The precise shaping of the rocks to fit together without mortar is
visible in the middle wall.
The Incans even chiseled the stone to fit into a round
building.
View of the terraces.
The alpacas were here too.
You can see Huayna Picchu located at the top of the mountain behind
Machu Picchu. We decided to save this climb for our next visit.
After our explorations of
Machu Picchu, we needed a break.
